Politics: MP Peter Lilley Expenses Exposed (Harpenden Conservatives)
Sorry about the grammar in advance, I rushed this article as it’s sunny out. I also don’t mean to pick on Peter Lilley as so many other MPs have done the same thing but he’s local, and runs things in Harpenden which matters even more to me and I guess the readers of this article.
I’m going to voice my opinion here which I wouldn’t normally do but these MP expenses are totally disgusting. I was / am conservative by the way but this has nothing to do with party policy, I’m just so astonished at how the government is running things and the corruption that’s filtered through the entire system.

Harpenden, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom and Hitchin MP Peter Lilley (conservative) released copies of his expenses claims to the Review today, revealing that he has claimed more than £6,000 in one year on repairs in his second home.
An additional costs allowance document, seen by the Review, shows Mr Lilley, whose main home is in Hitchin (approximately 40 miles away from Westminster), has claimed mortgage interest of around £12,500 a year on a second home in London in the last three years.
It is unclear whether Mr Lilley was living in the house before 1997 when he represented St Albans. The Review has requested clarification.
Claims Mr Lilley made between 2007 and 2008 include £3,407 for a replacement boiler, £1,668 for renovating a shower and £1,185 for window repairs.
I can’t understand why I should pay for his second home in London especially when he only live in Hitchen which is where I used to live and had no trouble travelling in to London every day. I bet he does not live in that home more than a day or two a week and that’s probably only to sleep… He also gets to profit from the sale of that second home I am paying for when he sells it as I’m sure there is no clause saying any profits will be paid back to the tax payer who is giving him those funds for such things as new showers and updating…
Why can’t he stay in a hotel while in London? I’m sure it would cost me the tax payer far less if he really had to stay in London.
I used to work in the biggest bank in the world and lived miles away from my work place. I was given a London allowance of about £2,000 and that was it. I could claim for many things in my role while at the bank such as meals (when out with clients), even petrol if I ever had to use my car. I have paying 40% tax for most of my working life, I have no children, I have never claimed any benefits and in fact I have been unemployed for the last one and a half years and did not claim National Insurance or Council tax benefits (even though I was entitled to them). I was able to use my savings (not huge savings I might add) to pay for living costs as I thought it wrong to take money away from the system and those who are far worse off than me (especially the aged and disabled). What a waste of time that was… I should have claimed everything I could just like the bandits who run my country.
These MPs are treating you and I like fools
The government seems to be able to run itself beyond what benefits you would even get in a private company where the funds come from willing private investors and NOT manditory public taxes (although this has now changed thanks to the government who currently runs my country).
I know someone who in the past committed fraud by avoiding taxes, he managed to walk off with £20,000 before being found out about it. He was put in jail for 3 years!
Don’t you think that these MPs have commited fraud? They have been taking your hard earned money and lavishly spending it on their second (personal investment) homes, TV’s, Pot plants, BOILERS, SHOWERS, WINDOWS.
Why are the police not taking action? Why are these criminal MPs still running my country? Why are they not in jail?
Every MP that stole my hard earned money should at the very least pay pack every penny they claimed for and be removed from government, and the ones that have really taken us for a ride should be in jail! None of the parties are now trustworthy. How can I vote for crooks? I’m at a loss, the party policies are now totally irrelevant in light of these fraudulent expense claims. They are bandits…
Wholly agree with you:when i see Brown or Cameron i cannot stop laughing at them,Brown used taxpyers money to pay for his childrens bedrom blinds,Cameron(a millionaire 30 times over) has the audacity to take taxpaers money to buy an Oxfordshire retreat and £680 to clear its chimney of Wisteria .
This is a rotten Parliament where the innocent MP’s are just as guilty as the thieves:they sat by and let other MPs steal from the public and did nothing. Bad men can only succeed if good men sit by and do nothing.
Manure,masage chair (that was for the Justice Minister( no one asked him who paid for the masseuse),maltesers,i pods,gardening,tennis court pipes,blue movies,restaurant meals,flipped 2nd homes bought and improved with taxpayers money(the Chancellor flipped 4 times in 4 years),Geoff Hoon Defence Minister a £1.7 million property millionaire when our troops lack proper equipment).I wonder why they reduced CGT fro 40% to 18%?
This Parliament is venal and self serving ,has brought Parliamen into disrepute and threatened our democracy:they are Right Dishonourable MPS who have betrayed our people ,our forefathers who sacrificed their lives in two world wars and our childrens futures.
The Queen of her own volition should dissolve Parliament and call a general election if she wishes to avoid being tarred with the same brush of corruption:what did her Prime Minister say when she asked him about his childrens blinds?
The great British people deserve better than this: they welcome people from all over the world,work like staconites,pay half their wages in tax and are treated like slaves:the bankers get billions ,the MP’s millions and the people are given pennies.
I for one will not vote for the current MP’sof the mainstream parties:they have forgotten the faces of their forefathers and treat the electorate with contemptThey are morally bankrupt .
